Namuma Gaun

Namuna Gaun is a large scale project that looks to build an entire settlement in the traditional newā architecture style, and it is by far Puri’s most ambitious. It is currently a work in progress with only 3 completed buildings thus far, built as ideal models for all other homes to be built in this project. This project that was initiated in 2012 has had multiple hiccups along the way, the worst of which being the 2015 Earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic. There have also been political fueds and blockages in the past, but as of 2022, the mayor of Banepa, the municipality in which Namuna Gaun is located, extends his full support for this project.

Namuna Gaun is essentially a housing scheme, where homes will be available for purchase after completion. It looks to maintain regulations where new home owners may not bring any modifications to the buildings in a way that would compromise the traditional style of architecture. Of course, the interior would boast modern features and facilities, all the while maintaining the medieval presentation.

Puri believes that Namuna Gaun will be a pilot concept for many other businesses and settlements to come, just as Namuna Ghar has been, and that it will be an immense contribution to RPF’s goal of heritage conservation.
